Fickett Structural Solutions’ teaching and training services help engineers, inspectors, fabricators, and contractors enhance the knowledge and skills needed to perform their work safely and effectively. Working nationwide, we provide these services for local, state, and federal agencies, as well as private clients.

NHI-certified Training Programs
Fickett delivers NHI training on behalf of FHWA, helping train inspectors and engineers across the country.
The National Highway Institute is a division of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), dedicated to enhancing the skills of transportation professionals through training programs that directly support the safety of our nation’s infrastructure.
As a subconsultant partnered with Greenman-Pedersen, Inc. (GPI), Fickett Structural Solutions works under two contracts to deliver the following inspection-related courses for the NHI:
- NHI 130053 – Bridge Inspection Refresher Training
- NHI 130055 – Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges
- NHI 130056 – Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges for Professional Engineers
- NHI 130087 – Inspection of Ancillary Highway Structures

Fickett’s NHI-certified Instructors
Fickett has eleven NHI-certified instructors on staff, with over 85 years of combined teaching experience.
Five of our instructors have been recognized by NHI with the Instructor of Excellence Award, a distinction that reflects outstanding instruction, deep expertise, preparation, professionalism, and a commitment to service.
As structural engineers, inspectors, and technicians, our instructors are committed to sharing their expertise with course participants and industry peers. Our instructors’ mission is to strengthen technical understanding, improve consistency, and apply best practices.

In addition to instructing NHI courses, Fickett has developed independent training courses in response to our clients’ requests. These courses may be adapted to meet the scheduling and training needs of each client’s staff.
